Celosia argentea var. plumosa
Whereas the cristata (crested) and spicata (spiked) varieties of celosia are fuzzy, the plumosa (plume) variety of celosia is soft and fluffy! Think of the plumes on ornamental grass, but make them SUPER fluffy, shimmering in every color of the rainbow, and blooming by summer instead of fall! The Pampas Plume series of celosia plumosa branches beautifully and will reward you with masses of flowers all summer long! We enjoy planting these in drifts of single colors, but also intermixed with other types of flowers outside the amaranthaceae family, if we note a particular type of flower (like zinnias) could benefit from the vertical support they offer and also to deter deer and rabbits (who will ignore this plant).
We really love this cute creamy yellow color in our early summer bouquets and fall in love with it again in fall when we get to pair it with some of the cuter dahlia colors.
As with all celosias, this variety will make a tremendously longlasting cut flower, even without a cooler. A member of the amaranth family, you can feel free to enjoy celosias as a colorful, floral tea - the color of the fresh blossoms will determine the color brewed! What else? Substitute in the edible leaves when cooking things like collar greens, chard, kale, etc. What else? Grow your own bird food that isn't laden with insecticides! Oh, did we mention that deer and rabbits will completely ignore celosia? Enjoy!

FOR FLOWER ARRANGING
For maximum vase life (7 - 14 days): Snip for arranging when the flowers are BOTH fully developed AND stems are firm at the base of the bloom. Cut those stems at a 45-degree angle for maximum water uptake, and place them directly into fresh, lukewarm water with flower food, in a cool, draft-free area, out of direct sunlight. Trim away any wilted or browning leaves that develop, which can draw away moisture from the blossoms.
