Natural Beauty Flower Farm has been growing unique cut flowers in the rocky, rolling hills of Chester County, Pennsylvania since 2018. We are a small-scale, family-owned farm, and draw upon an extensive knowledge of geology, botany, and local ecology (not to mention 35 years combined experience as environmental consultants) to ensure our growing, packaging, and distribution techniques are as sustainable as possible.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Megan began Natural Beauty Flower Farm in 2018 with her husband, Tim, and daughter, Eloise. As the footprint of the original garden grew, so did the team, a crew as diverse as the garden! But every member of our team shares the same passion for locally and sustainably grown flowers and food, and the positive impact they both have on our community and environment. We will happily support other small-scale local growers and gardeners in the area by incorporating their stems into our offerings when demand exceeds the number of flowers we have blooming, or if they simply have something unique to offer! And we're all glad YOU'VE stopped by and also recognize the value of local growers and this vibrant movement!
ABOUT OUR GROWING PRACTICES
We grow the majority of our flowers from the seed we've collected ourselves. Through soil blocking, we avoid all of the unnecessary waste that would come with using disposable black plastic cell trays and instead create tiny 3/4" standalone soil cubes with a 20-cell soil blocker that is sturdy enough to be in the family for generations, and then grow those out on sturdy, reusable, and easy to sterilize lunch trays. We have no greenhouse and no need for one. All seedlings are grown out on two 4-tier shelves before being hardened off and planted out in the field. Aside from primary tillage, we are a no-till operation, and our most commonly used (and lost) tool for planting is the common butter knife. Depending on the crop, we mulch with either companion plantings in the understory, organic compost, straw, ornamental grass prunings, or 100% biodegradable mulch film. All irrigation is drip, minimizing evaporation losses to atmosphere. Nourishing our plants is primarily through top-dressing with compost, however we do also fertilize lightly each season with an organic granular flower fertilizer.
ABOUT OUR SEEDS
All seeds we sell are field-grown by our team without the use of any chemicals or pesticides. After being open-pollinated by our insect friends, they are collected, cleaned, and packaged (all by hand) by our small team of passionate (and meticulous) gardeners. Though we've been collecting and growing out seed for our own use for years, 2025 is the first year we've intentionally grown a portion of our flowers with the express intent to sell that seed back to YOU, and we couldn't be more excited! And why? Beyond my personal opinions around global trade risks and the importance of growing as much as we can locally, there's simply a HUGE dimension of the flowers we grow that you miss by simply having them arranged in a bouquet: the way they serve as landing pads for butterflies, become safe places for honeybees to nap, serve as sources of food for hummingbirds during the growing season and songbirds in the winter...for those of you looking to experience all of this magic and entertainment, we've taken a lot of care to describe each flower seed type in terms of its environmental benefits. But this is not to diminish the value of flowers in the vase! Oh we LOVE bringing flowers indoors as much as you do! We just also want to offer you the ability to practice floristry techniques from the comfort of your own home and have the ability to amplify any purchased bouquets (hopefully ours!) with the unique fillers and foliage that we have been falling in love with over the years, with a simple walk out to YOUR garden. That's why each seed we offer includes instructions on the proper way to cut them from your garden and care for them in the vase. In time, we hope to be able to expand our offerings to all of the flowers we grow - but in the meantime, please enjoy many of our favorites!
